If you’ve ever wanted to achieve something great in your life, you should probably open this email….
I’m going to lay out the “holy grail” of entrepreneurship…
Inventors, dreamers, and investors far and wide have been searching their entire lives…
Scrolling through YouTube tutorials…
Listening to endless podcasts…
And google searching like raving psychopaths…
But here, today, I’m going to give you the actual secret…
Ready?
Actually, first, a VERY quick story that will make it all make sense, ready?
Here are the stats for my last “Kale Letter”, sent out on Friday.
Pretty amazing huh?
I’m a FREAKING OVERNIGHT SUCCESS BABY!!!
Actually wait…
I started writing this letter back in SEPTEMBER….
5 days a week, 1-2 hours a day in order to make these letters actually decent.
So, I’m 5 months in, and honestly, while those numbers look good above and I’m super proud of them…
It’s not like I’m making enough money to become a full-time writer, haha!
This letter started as a FORCED project.
The end goal?
Write a #1 New York Times Bestseller.
I figured the only way to do that properly was just to START WRITING, build an audience, and figure out what YOU guys want to read.
So I forced myself to do this newsletter.
Now, here we are, 5 months later.
Want to know the big secret?
Okay let me just tell you.
I’ll make it bigger so you don’t miss it.
People OVER-ESTIMATE what they can do in a SHORT period of time, and UNDER-ESTIMATE what they can accomplish over a LONG period of time.
That’s it.
You’re probably like, “Come on Kale, that’s so lame.”
But is it? Really?
I would argue that it’s the #1 difference between those that succeed and fail at Entrepreneurship.
Let’s go back to the Kale Letter example.
When I first started, I honestly thought it would be quick.
I already have an audience from building my prior companies.
So I thought by now I’d have thousands of subscribers, be making 100k+ a month, and writing a book soon.
Seriously, I believed that.
After like a month or so of writing, I QUICKLY realized that it was going to take MUCH MUCH MUCH longer than that.
I considered quitting.
I make plenty of money elsewhere, and I don’t need all this time consumption of this letter, I thought.
BUT THIS IS WHY IT’S SO IMPORTANT.
Because I’m not unique.
This literally happens to EVERY SINGLE ENTREPRENEUR I’ve ever worked with (and it’s 10’s of thousands at this point).
here’s how it goes.
They start, they have insane, incredible goals, they have unlimited energy.
One month later, they realize it’s going to take at least twice as long as they thought and require 5x more energy than they thought.
Many quit.
Those that don’t quit, end up succeeding in a big way, because there is less competition… (everyone else quit).
Think about it in simple terms from the newsletter example…
Let’s say there were 10,000 “Kale’s” that started a newsletter in September…
How many quit after month one?
Month 2?
Month 3?
Month 4?
Month 5?
Obviously, I’m probably one of like .00000001% of people that have actually stuck it out this long.
(that’s not because I’m cool, btw, that’s because I FORCED MYSELF to do it, see my previous letters on life hacks)
So obviously, now the letter is picking up steam, because it has grown, steadily, and now, there is less competition.
I expect from here it will do 10x over the next 5 months as it did in the first 5 months.
And then 10x after that.
And another 10x.
But, let’s go back to the rule of the day, okay?
People OVER-ESTIMATE what they can do in a SHORT period of time, and UNDER-ESTIMATE what they can accomplish over a LONG period of time.
I’m probably still over-estimating how massive this letter can grow in the next 5-12 months, absolutely.
But I KNOW, from experience, that I’m UNDERESTIMATING where this letter will be in 5 years…
Honestly, the only real question at this point?
Will I still be writing this letter in 5 years?
Because if I am, my competition will be essentially ZERO.
No one who started at the same time as me will be left.
And I’m willing to bet those rewards will be quite hefty.
(first rule of biz, if you don’t have competition, you usually make a lot of money…)
Now, I understand that there are other newsletters.
But I’m trying to simplify this example for you.
Does that make sense?
Let me know in the comments below.
Be encouraged today, you future or current Entrepreneur YOU!
Every single day you survive, is another 10 of your competitors quitting.
Every single wall you break down is another wall your competitors thought was too sturdy to tackle.
Every single doubt you have in your head about your SHORT TERM performance will be ERADICATED if you just decide to SHOW UP and KEEP showing up over the long term.
Every single “overnight success” that the media tries to portray, spent YEARS if not DECADES in the shadows, patiently chipping away.
I’ll leave you with one more quote.
This one is from Lionel Messi.
He just signed a $673 MILLION DOLLAR contract, for 4 YEARS of playing soccer.
I’m not great at math but that’s like 170 million PER YEAR….
“I start early and I stay late, day after day, year after year…
It took me 17 years 114 days to become an overnight success.”
Share this with someone, pretty please.
